Harry Cocker was employed as a tinsmith's assistant in the Way and Works Department of the Midland Railway at Derby.

Derby Daily Express, 21st June 1916:
Harry Cocker had served in Ireland during the Easter uprising in Dublin. Additionally, he had a brother serving in the Derbyshire R.F.A. and an uncle who was also 'in the firing line'.
